KOAC ADVISORY COUNCIL PRESIDENT: CASSIE MORRELL

From the Desk of your  Advisory Council President
On June 19, 2004, King center welcomed our new (long awaited) Director in the person of Ms. Beverly Gordy. Ms. Gordy earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Temple University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Marshall University. She is a long-time employee of the City of Philadelphia Recreation Department. Before her appointment to the Northeast Older Adult Center, she was employed at the Mann Older Adult Center. We are delighted to have Ms. Gordy with us her at  King and we look forward to a long and happy relationship.
Cassie Morrell,
Advisory Council President

As long as I've been a member of King Center (and that's quite a long time) there has been a Suzette Coates here: now I  Have to say good-bye to 'Susie' as I called her. I know I speak for everyone who know and love her, when I say it will be very lonely in the Arts & Crafts Room without her quick wit and sweet smile. Suzette was employed here at King Center for 25 plus years as the Arts & Crafts Instructor. I am living proof of the fact that Suzette can teach anyone to paint, draw, ceramics or needlepoint if they could hold a paint brush or a needle or just able to use their hands. She is a remarkable instructor in very sense of the word. She would always say 'you can do it', and do it we did.
We wish her every happiness in her new position. It has been our great pleasure to have known 'Susie'. King Center members said a fond good-bye to Melvin Welcher as he retired on August 31, 2004. We shall certainly miss seeing Melvin's slow but steady pace walking about the center. We wish him a restful, healthy and enjoyable retirement.

Cassie Morrell,
Advisory Council President
