The boundaries served by our center are: Fairmount Avenue to Dauphin Street, and Broad Street to 33rd Street, here in the great city of Philadelphia! Community Workers helped get things moving by distributing flyers in the neighborhood, visiting churches, agencies and community meetings promoting the Center's program. This brought many people into the center. As a multi-purpose Center, we have continued to thrive through the years with older adults coming to seek help with material needs, social and emotional support, or just the security of being a part of a group and a sense of being linked with the rest of the community. Other available services are: daily lunch, counseling, information and referrals, center transportation, group discussions, exercise, art and crafts, local and out of town trips, entertainment and movies. The Center's Advisory Council plays an active part in the governing of the Center's Program. The Martin Luther King Older Adult Center continues to render the best of services to our participants and friends in the North Philadelphia area. In our thirty years of existence, we have served more than 20,000 persons sixty years of age and older. Registration records show an average of 20-25 new members each month.
